About the artist:

Wellington Virgolino was born in Recife, Pernambuco in Brazil in 1929. Trained at Pernambucano and in 1950, was a part of Modern Art Society of Recife, two years later founded the Studio Collective of it, alongside the artists Abelardo da Hora, Gilvan Samico and José Cláudio. In 1969, holds his first solo exhibition in the Gallery of the Park Theater in Recife. Participates in numerous collective exhibitions, among which are: VI and VII Bienal Internacional de Sao Paulo (1961 and 1963); I Biennial National Arts (Salvador, 1966) Workshop Pernambuco, in the Museum of Contemporary Art of the USP (São Paulo, 1967); Art / Brazil / Today: 50 Years Later, in the Gallery Collectio (São Paulo, 1972); 7th Exhibition of Fine Arts Brazil-Japan, the Brazil-Japan Foundation of Fine Arts (São Paulo, 1985). After his death, his works include the show The Club Engraving of Brazil, the Pinacoteca do Estado de Sao Paulo (São Paulo, 1994). He died in Recife in 1988.
