Will Davies

Canadian (1924–2016)

About the artist:

From the late-1940’s to the early 2000’s, Will Davies was a driving influence on Canadian illustration. Born July 12, 1924 in Belleville, Ontario to Joseph and Olive, William Gerald Davies succumbed to complications brought on by congestive heart failure. He'll be remembered by many for his style, both in his work and in his everyday life. Always the gentleman and always with kind words for others, for five decades Will's work was everywhere on government stamps, in ads for Simpsons West End and Hathaway shirts, posters for the City of Toronto, Bank of Montreal and CBC, Harlequin book covers - 500 of them - Chatelaine Magazine story illustrations, annual reports for corporate clients, sports illustrations, TV Guide covers, illustrations for the Hudson's Bay Co. documentary "Empire of the Bay," the McDonald's cigarette girl and dozens of car advertisements. His work became synonymous with a glamour all his own and with a look which never seemed to go out of demand. Ontario College of Art and Design (OCAD) Teacher, Canadian Association of Professional Image Creators (CAPIC) President, Will's influence on the field of illustration was felt across the country. In the past year a book was published by a close colleague recognizing Will's career. Shop art by Will Davies online.
