About the artist:

Winthrop Neilson started painting in his twenties while biking through Southern France with a paint box on his back. While visiting Rome he came up with his linear style. He lived in Buck Hill Falls, PA and for fifteen years at the National Arts Club in New York City. He was not only a painter but a writer. A great illustrator of children's books in the 1950s. Notable books of his illustrations include: Great Events in the the Life of Theodore Roosevelt (1953) He was a writer as well with his wife Frances.
